Gilmer Museums

Gilmer County's museums, are both located within the town limits of Glenville - each teaching different lessons of days gone by. Additional historical documents can be located in the West Virginia Room at the Robert F. Kidd Library on campus, and at the Gilmer County Courthouse.

The Holt House The Holt House History Center

Owned by the Gilmer County Historical Society, the Holt House became a museum through the work of U.S. Senator Alan B. Mollohan, whose mother, a Holt, lived in this house which was built by her grandfather in 1903. The center is located at the corner of Main and Morris Streets, Glenville.

The Country Store Museum

Located at 6 Court Street, Glenville, the former Ruddell General Store is an example of 19th century commercial design. Owned by the WV State Folk Festival Inc., the building is filled with historical pieces of the region, and sill includes the original decorative tin ceiling.
    

  

The Country Store Museum was once the Ruddell General Store. It is also the headquarters for the WV State
Folk Festival.

Each museum has different hours of operation. Be sure to call ahead if you are planning to visit.
