Enjoy and Explore - The Virtual Tour

Gilmer County's features draw the interest of a variety of people. Some come to the annual Folk Festival, interested in music. Others come to camp and fish along the waters of Cedar Creek State Park. Yet, still others come to explore the history of our region.

This virtual tour has divided feature highlights of the county into five themes according to interest- History, Culture, Adventure, Recreation, and For the Sportsman. You can follow the tour from beginning to end, or choose your area of interest below.

Home to ten registered historic landmarks, two small museums, a World War II Memorial, and numerous relics of early Appalachian living, Gilmer County has a rich history. In addition, little hidden treasures along the way make history come alive!

Featuring the annual Folk Festival, Cedar Creek Fireworks Display, the largest art gallery in central WV, and the only full collection of Klaude Kemper's hand-carved birds on public display, Gilmer County's culture is deep rooted, and admirable.

Home to campgrounds, hiking trails, and Camp sites galore, Gilmer County also features the Cedar Creek Backway, a public shooting range, five public stream access sites, and 1,674 acres of Wildlife Management area. Or hike one of the advanced trails at Cedar Creek State Park!

Swimming, golfing, fishing, boating - a shaded picnic, reunion, or game of miniature golf, tennis or softball - Gilmer is a treasure of outdoor fun! With two outdoor swimming pools and camp sites all over the county, Gilmer is an affordable getaway.

Hidden Treasures

Gilmer County has a pottery, vineyard, art gallery, fitness center and public computer lab. You can also enjoy a nature trail, or, during the academic year, climb a rock wall.
